The opening of BBDW23 is an invitation to metaphorically immerse oneself in a reef. A reef is an example of a collaborative ecosystem, proposed by Amalio Rey in ERRESONANTZIA at BBDW22, a theme to articulate the curation of ARTIKULAZIOA.
A reef is a marine concentration composed of an assemblage of different materials, natural or artificial, that forms a habitat conducive to life. An ecosystem where a great diversity of organisms independently contribute to its sustainable and resilient development. An open infrastructure, always in transition, facilitating connection, exchange and collaboration.
BBDW23 aims to become a reef that will be articulated and enriched throughout the week, by the different programme activities and their effects, and the remains of the participants’ interventions. A reef that will be materially represented in the Ensanche Building, functioning as an interactive and evolving container-stage.
In the afternoon, the different agents involved in shaping and invigorating this reef will present their contributions to a process that, in and of itself, has been an exercise in articulation and assembly. From the curatorship, ColaBoraBora will introduce this edition; CRISIS will explain how diatoms give life to visual identity; IED Kunsthal will present the process of working with students to define the structural system that supports the reef; Gheada will present its mediation proposal and invite us to an initial participatory activity. There will be a round table in which different design professionals will compare perspectives and experiences on the idea of articulation: Andrea Petit from Studio Petit Muller, on eco-design, craftsmanship and the circular economy; Arantza Iriarte from Local 4, on a regenerative and activating landscaping of the convivial; Ione Ardaiz from Arantzazulab, on collaborative governance and co-creation ecosystems; and Nora Inoriza from Diaradesign, on the design of current and future strategies, products and services.
During the more informal part of the meeting BOKAT by Etxanobe will provide a show cooking event with the sandwich as an assembly and other snacks on the theme of reef and ecosystem, paired with La Salve beers. And all accompanied by sounds from experimental musician Arketypo, who will provide sounds and textures from Bakio during our immersion.
In short, a kaixo (hello), a presentation, a space for reflection and participation, a moment for meeting and enjoyment, and an invitation to immerse yourself in BBDW23 for the next 10 days!

We are CRISIS, a branding and transmedia design studio specialised in helping brands without complexes to stand out and connect with their audience wherever they are. We master dies and pixels in equal parts and we are not afraid of chaos. It's not for nothing that we fight it (and beat it down) day in and day out. And if we've learned anything, it's that every crisis has the potential to be the beginning of something better.
IED Kunsthal Bilbao is the first and only private Higher Design Center in the Basque Autonomous Community. With an offer that ranges from official Bachelor's degrees in Higher Education in Design (specialties in Fashion, Product, Interiors and Graphics) to master's degrees, specialization programs and summer courses, the IED Kunsthal Bilbao is a large creative community for training, dissemination and activation of design culture.
The result of the union in 2020 of the European Institute of Design and Kunsthal, originating in Irún, this educational project combines strong roots in the local territory and the most international vision of the discipline, as it is today part of a network of 11 centers in Spain, Italy and Brazil.
The IED Kunsthal Bilbao is a living laboratory where students, a teaching team of active professionals and a variety of social and business agents exchange knowledge, explore together and collaborate on real projects associated with values such as sustainability, diversity or technology at the service of people.
Founded by Raquel Durán and Rut Briones, Gheada is a multidisciplinary artistic studio based in Bilbao and specialized in immersive, interactive and performative experiences. They develop cultural projects in which technology and craftsmanship come together at the service of an immersive narrative, offering sensory experiences with multiple layers. They collaborate with numerous performing companies designing their projections, and their works have been exhibited at the Matadero Madrid Proyector Festival, the Umbra Light Festival or the Getxophoto Festival.
Andréa Petit, artisan designer, graduated in 2014 from the prestigious École Boulle in Paris, specializing in decoration. In 2017, he settled in Bilbao, where he co-founded Studio Petit Muller. Their approach combines design and aesthetics to promote well-being in interiors, as reflected in Erko ergonomic stools. In addition, it challenges conventional practices in the decoration sector with "Second Skin", a method aimed at improving waste management and reducing environmental impact through a "recovery/integration" system.

My postgraduate training, complementary to the university degree, became what defined my professional profile. Founding partner of SEMA 99 (1986-1999) part of LOCAL4 S.L. since 2000 and co-founder of Tan-Tak (2010-2011). Teacher at the Derio Agrarian School, in the Master of Urban Renewal of Santiago de Compostela and in the Master of Landscape of the Faculty of Geography of the UPV.
In these organizations he has dedicated himself to the development of studies of and from the landscape. Landscape treatments, urban projects, garden treatments and projects that complement city strategies.
Professionally, he has developed his career in different entities and countries such as Italy, Belgium, Germany, Australia and Spain.
At TACSI he worked with the Australian government and NGOs co-designing programs and services with people. At Agirre Lehendakaria Center he applied the center's own systemic change methodology.
He is currently part of Arantzazulab where he designs, coordinates and implements Democratic Innovation initiatives. It focuses its activity on systemic change approaches, activation of innovation ecosystems, collaborative governance and deliberative democracy.
Graduated in Industrial Design Engineering and Product Development (Mondragon Unibertsitatea, 2012) and with subsequent Masters in Marketing (ESERP, 2013) and Strategic Design (Mondragon Unibertsitatea, 2014), she is part of the DIARADESIGN team, where she leads the Design areas Strategic and Service Design. The combination of his technical and creative training allows him to investigate the behavior of people and their environment to design strategies, experiences, products or services from a systemic and empathetic perspective in each of the projects in which he participates.

Arketypo is the name behind Gonzalo Atela from Bilbao.
After exploring different musical styles and genres with the guitar and voice; He entered the world of production in 2017. He developed a strong interest in electronic music until in April 2020 he published his first full-length, "ArKeTyPo"; self-produced from his home studio.
The different styles that inspire him are reflected in his music; electronic, pop, funk, jazz, etc; which allows you to create different rhythms and melodies full of your own identity.
Their EP "TR4NQU1LO" includes 3 tracks of organic and ambient sounds with the piano as the common thread. And the singles "How We Finish" and "De Cero" show a more danceable and even rock character. This is a sign that the project shows versatility and very varied influences, which makes it interesting to keep track of Arketypo.
